ADULT BASIC EDUCATION (ABE)
The mission of the Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program is to provide instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics to adult learners in order to prepare them for transitioning into the labor market or higher academic or vocational training. This free program helps adults age 16 or older (who are not enrolled in a secondary school) develop these basic skills. The Elk River Learning Lab is a member of Metro North ABE, a consortium of Community Education departments of nine school districts. GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT (GED)
GED Preparation is offered at the Elk River Learning Lab located at the Handke Center.
GED Tests are a battery of five exams which, when passed, certify that the taker has American high school-level academic skills. Five exams are given in the area of writing skills, social studies, science, literature and mathematics. Testing is open to adults 19 years of age and older. Students younger than age 19 may apply for an age waiver at the Elk River Learning Lab. For GED testing schedule and information, contact 763-433-4054. The nearest testing site in relation to Elk River is Anoka Technical College.

During an intake session you will fill out forms with your personal data and complete an initial assessment.

You will have an oppoortunity to ask questions about the program and get an approximation of the length of time you will need to complete the program.

An intake session can last 1-1.5 hours.

Please, no children during intake session.
