TheTop 10 things our staff wants you to know about

Discovery Learning Preschool Classes!

1. Learning Through Play is key to our program - and we make sure kids get what they need!

2. There are several important components to our program:

  •  60 minutes of choice time in an environment planned for learning
  •  Outdoor or gym time
  •  Small group time
  •  Circle time
  •  Snack time

3. We focus on children’s interests, needs, and abilities and build activities and interactions
around these.

4. Academics are embedded in the curriculum.

5. We embrace human diversity and think it provides an opportunity for families, children and staff to develop sensitivity and understanding towards all people. Many of our classes include
children with special needs and are co-taught with staff from Early Childhood Special Education.

6. We use observation and note taking to look at the whole child in four areas of development: Cognitive, Social-Emotional, Physical and Language. We are assessing growth and development throughout the year.

7. The 50 goals of the Creative Curriculum guide our observations and assessments of children’s development. They also help us plan activities, and the learning environment for our classes.

8. Parent Involvement is critical and there are many ways parents can be involved, such as volunteering to prepare materials or bringing a “field trip” to us by driving a tow truck to our site!!

9. We are part of the school district.

10. We enjoy children and their families! We enjoy our work! We want families to enjoy being here! We want your children to be confident and prepared for their Kindergarten experience!
