Sherburne County Parenting Apart
A Course for:  Separation, Divorce, Post-decree Paternity

This course is required for parents who file for divorce in
Sherburne County.  You must pre-register for this class
online at www.728communityed.com, or by calling the ECFE
office  at 763.241.3524.  The cost is $55 per person,
payable at the time of registration. Payment guarantees
your registration.


For a variety of reasons, many children do not live in homes
with both of their birth parents.  This may be due to divorce,
separation, a broken relationship or no relationship between
the parents. In these situations, children often experience
anger, sadness, guilt and grief.  Adults may experience the
same emotions. In addition they must deal with legal and
financial worries. Several agencies in Sherburne County
have collaborated to develop this program for divorcing/never
married parents.

The 8 hour course includes information on:
  • the legal process
  • paternity and custody
  • child support and financial assistance
  • conflict resolution
  • personal safety
  • intimacy and relationships
  • grief
  • impact on children
  • development of parenting plan
  • community resources

This course is required for  parents who file for divorce in
Sherburne County.  It is also appropriate for: Parents who
are considering divorce, parents who are already  divorced,
parents who have never married but both want to be
involved with their children, professionals working with
families in divorce.  This course is in compliance with the 
standards established by the Supreme Court for parent
education programs.

                         1170 Main Street,
                      Elk River,  MN 55330
                       enter through Door 4.

Facilities for children are not available,  please make
other childcare arrangements.

Please arrive 5 minutes early to check in and
receive course materials. Refreshments are provided at
break time.  One half hour is allowed for lunch  on your own.
